ATV security locks?
#1
I'm looking for advise on a ATV lock. I've looked at the "snake-style" locks where they use a series of hardened steel capsuls to encase aircraft quality cable. I like these, however like all locks they have a weakness, lowlifes are freezing the capsuls with refridgerant or if they have access to it...liquid nitrogen. Then you simply place the frozen part against something hard and nail it with a hammer to expose the cable underneath and then cut it with a cable cutter. I still prefer this style of lock, has anyone had any experience with these types made by Kryptonite, Pro Sport, Cobra Links or who ever I'd apreciate any feedback good or bad.

Have 5 long Kryptonite cable locks and feel that these are the easiest to handle and adapt to different applications.

Last year my quad was stolen out of the back of my truck at a hotel. Try cut a 3/8 stell braided cable, 10mm Kryptonite cable, and a little cable. If they want it they can take it. Like he said the locks will keep the honest out and the not so honest out. A true thief will get it. They are making some locks that have a alarm on them, don't know if any good. I am now using a 1 in snake cable and a Kryptonite though the rear sproket. But I watch how and where I park now on trips.

We were in NC two weeks ago, walked out of the hotel Friday morning as we were walking up to our (uncovered trailer) which hauled our sons 90 quad one of the strapes was hanging over the side. We had two of the cable locks on it, wraped around the frame of the quad and the frame of the trailer. The dumb asses cut all the strapes before they realized it had cable locks on it. They tried to cut the cables but could not. If they had bolt cutters I think they would have got it. I'm sure they would have been back for it the next night, but we changed hotels. I have never felt so sick as I did that morning when we realized this. The hotel was nice enough to give us that night free. The worst part is we had to come back home and buy a 2000.00 covered trailer and that made funds tight so we decided the miss Pine Lake this weekend. We kept the cable locks. Now when we stop at a hotel we will also lock the wheels of the trailer to the axle, so it they want it that bad they will have to work for it. P.S tprender we miss you!!!!!!

If you can find the chain they use to hold heavy equipment on the trailers when they are being moved (Category 5? or is that only for computer wiring?) get some. This stuff is so strong that it can only be cut with a torch or a diamond blade saw. It's not cheap and it weighs a ton, but it works.

I turn my innercom on in the garage at night. I have another unit on in our bedroom. This is the best way to know what is going on while you sleep.

I use Defcon notebook lock alarms they are $10 on ebay or $50 at best buy. If someone cuts the cable it goes off. It also has a motion detector that you can turn on. It is very sensitive, If anyone touches your trailer, it give warning chirps. If if keeps moving, then the alarm sounds.

I read somewhere, I believe on an insurance company's web site, that more than half of all atv thefts the people just roll the bike away. So I just use the kryptonite cable and try not to worry about how fast a real theif could steal it.

I just bought a 5/8 inch steel cable/lock combo that is encased in a hard plastic/rubber type of sheath, made by Brinks. Mainly for when its in the back of my truck. I also use a Kryptonite bike lock around the rear sprocket...
