My Ram has over 100,000 miles with the original auto tranny and it is doing fine. And I have over 550 foot pounds of torque at the rear wheels not at the flywheel. In comparison to the Fords 560 at the flywheel. I've probably got around 600 or so at the flywheel and I haven't even really gotten started yet with mods. Western Diesel did a shootout using stick equipped trucks versus autos. The autos were faster both empty and loaded by over 2 seconds in every instance. If you enjoy fixing trucks up ( powerwise) buy the diesel. The only way a gas burner other than a Lightening will outrun any of the Diesels after you turn them up a little is if you spend 4000.00 on a blower or put Nitrous on them. My truck should break into the 13s in the 1/4 this spring with just bigger injectors and a better fueling box. I've seen new Duramaxs run low 14s with only a Juice box from edge. I know some folks don't like diesels but I would buy any of the big 3s diesels before a gas burner. They are all extremely close performance wise and next year one of them will oneup the other again as usual. Check out dieselstop.com for info on the Ford. I would hold off on getting the 6.0 until they get a few more bugs worked out from what I see on that site. I drove all 3 before I made my purchase and the Wife and I both elected to buy the Dodge because of it's longevity record. The duramax and allison haven't been out long enough for me and neither one of us liked the way the Ford drove. I think the Powerstroke is a great engine but I'm just not used to a truck that drives the way they do. If you like getting 20+ mpg and having an engine that will live 350,000 miles get a diesel. I personally have no desire to ever own another gas burner.

2003 Ford Lightning Pick up. Towing capacity, 5000 lbs. Thats a four place trailer and 4 big ATVs and all your gear.

5.4L engine, 330 cubic inches. 380 horse power, 450 ft. lbs. torque, 3.73 gear ratio with limited slip, 4 wheel disc brakes, 18x9.5" wheels, Goodyear Eagle F1 GS tires, 70.2 hp per liter. It will pull your ATVs, and when your not towing, maybe you will want to go out and dust off a few Ram-Air 5.7L Trans Ams or Camaros just for fun. Out of the box these truck bone stock run mid 13s at over 100 mph.

It will be a while before someone builds a truck to keep up with this one. It would take a Corvette Z06 or a Viper to out run this one. I would look towards a PowerStroke for hauling a toy hauler though.

I know the diesels run well, but my daughter has a bone stock Jeep the out runs them all the time. They have tons of power but they are not "fast".

The DuraMax is built by Isuzu who has being building diesel engines forever, like Allison has with transmissions.

i know this is a topic about the Hemi and Lightnings, but another fast truck that can haul a quad is a Dodge Dakota R/T. my friend just got a 2000 model, and that thing is fast.

just incase you dont know what a Dodge Dakota R/T is, it is a Dakota with a 360 engine.

Spectra...I think I posted a link to the Ram V-10 Hemi w/ 600 HP....I think that would be able to 'keep up' with the Lightning....Doubt it'll be produced though.

Trucks have come a long way. Who would have ever thought they would be fast. My daughters Jeep is a 98 Grand Cherokee 5.9 Limited and it runs extremely well.

I would hate to be driving my shinny new truck and get dusted off by a 95 lb. 19 year old blonde in a Jeep, she quite enjoys it.

Personally I feel the new 2003 Chevy trucks have taken a giant leap backwards. They are ugly.
