Off topic - Monte Carlo oil leak?
I know this isn't ATV, but you guys are generally pretty sharp. Ive got a '99 Carlo Z34 w/ 3.8L V6 (3800 Series II), its got 91K miles and has developed an oil leak. Any of you guys had a problem with this engine? Someone told me to check the valve covers and I have, it isn't that. The oil is coming from the front of the engine, looks to be down where the crank comes out of the block (where the big pulley thing is that drives the accesories), any idea what kind of $$$$ im looking at here? In a 5 hour period it dripped a 5 inch around circle of oil, is this too little worry about, just keep an eye on it??

only one waqy to really figure out where the oil leak is....get some engine degreaser and spray it all over the engine....cover the electronics etc...and wash it up good...then...you can get a beter idea about where you are leaking from. Do you smell any oil burning as you drive?

i work at a car dealer and im around junk all day long...(dodge/jeep).......it seems that its probly the crank seal, not a very bad job on a 3.8but i dont know how tight that motor is on a monte. as long as its not tight with a little mechanical ability youshould be able to take the drive belts off, but you may need a puller to take the harmonic balancer(crank pulley) off. good luck----oh and if you wanna save yourself some work...buy some engine oil dye at advanced auto parts and put it in....then drive it for awhile....but make sure you dont get uv dye...youll need a uv light to see that....
