I am thinking about spending some bucks on my warrior. I am wanting to up grade the engine to get some power out of it. Where should I start, and what should I do to it. I really have no budget so that won't hold me back from doing anything. Thanx in advance.

Call up Team Alba they have a 400 Stroker Kit for Warriors and they claim it will really make your Warrior fly.

If you check out the archives, you'll see lots of postings on performance mods for your Warrior. As far as what's available, there's quite a few options.

First off, decide what your goal is in "building" the quad. Like, are you trying to beat Banshees, or just be a little quicker through the woods? Next, decide how much you realistically want to spend and how far into the engine you're willing to go (bolt-ons, top end, or complete tear-down).

Next, call a few different companies to see what they offer, and to see if their products meet your goals.

A few things to remember -- if you're trying to make the Warrior as fast as a 400 EX, be prepared to spend at least $2000. This requires a bore and stroke combo and some good head work -- along with chassis mods. Be wary of any company who claims they can build you a "banshee beater" for under a grand. 'Taint possible!

Check into companies who can do a complete package deal for you, such as TC Racing, Powroll, etc. Be a little careful about companies who are mainly two stroke people who just got into 4 strokes in the past few years. It's not that they don't build a good product, they just tend to build engines that do better on wide open sand dunes than in the trails.

Since I also have a super-fast banshee, I decided that my stock warrior was a little too boring. If you don't have a budget, and want to really make a difference, be prepared to spend in excess of $1000 on this project. Plan on cam, 10.25:1 piston, carb, pipe, and airbox mods. You need to stick with one company and implement their entire performance package for best results. Duncan Racing performed the mods on my warrior, and I can tell you it was worth every penney I spent! I am very impressed with the power output, and did not loose any reliability in the process. Be sure you have your cylinder head ported and flowed also, as that makes a huge difference. Stay away from stroker cranks unless you want to turn it into a time bomb. I weigh 240 lbs, and have a riding buddy on a stock 400EX that weighs only 160, and my warrior will slightly pull him in a drag race, so you can imagine how it would do with equal weight riders. One other tip. Do yourself a favor and gear up 1 tooth on the c/s sprocket. The stock gearing is too low and won't allow you to use all of your newfound power otherwise. Hope this helps you. Good luck and good riding!

the first thing to do is to get a good pipe. i use a supertrapp ids with a dg head pipe. dispite what most people say changing to a diffrent head pipe helps.also run a WB torkstuffer. next is thhead work a good porting goes a long way and if you want you can stepp up to larger valves(about $250) i runing a powerroll 366 bigbore which uses the stock sleave but if you realy want to make it fly you can install a aa aluminum sleave and have it plated(it's worth about 2 to 3 hp)tha cam is up to u i'm going to start running a 430 lift soon up from the 390. it makes more mid to high but it can mess up your valves. i'm going to also use albas ajustable cam gear to work with to timing to help the valve problem. the final thing would be a carb for the most part a 36mm will do but a 38mm can be used for a little more top end.an other i haven't tried yet is a carb off a 400ex or a yz400f. i've toalk with my loacal builder and he seems to think the yzf's carb would be the best.
