Looking for advice on going big bore on a '87 250 mojave. want to know numbers for maximum HP vs reliability and any other advice you may have. thanks.

It all depends on how much money you want to spend... My Mojave has been the most reliable and durable bike yet. I wouldn't hold back in modifications, you can always resleeve whenever it comes time. Also, I read one of your previous posts regarding how you did not want to install a stroker kit. Actually that's a great way to increase displacement. Check the following links:

I have the Cobra Jet exhaust, 13 tooth front sprocket and 22" tires which allows me to pull wheelies in 2nd and 3rd gears by barely jerking on the handle bars. That says a lot considering how large a guy I am (6'2" 280). Add a big bore kit and watch out!

I wouldn't say performing radical modifications would lessen the reliability of your quad, but like anything that's built to produce horsepower won't supply as many miles (in respect to engine life) like that of an economic stock engine.

Usually highly modified engines raise the HP and Torque curves up high, but the Mojave still has plenty of low end, so don't be afraid! If you have the money, you won't be disappointed.
