CR500 Top Speed?
There was a drag strip test done several years ago by a mag. They took all the 500 dirt bikes at that time and ran them down the 1/4 mile. They all ran through the traps at around 90mph. I cant remember which mag it was, but it stuck in my head because of how fast they really were. I guess take it for whatever it's worth

i'd say the 14 year ago cr500's around 90mph stock gearing, the ones from around today i would say around 82mph with stock gearing. but if you have a ever riden one with stock gearing they are just so plain dangerous that you need to gear up. i mean on road they spin the tires from a dead start like nothing, and in the trails if you are lucky and it doesnt wheelie it will smoke the tire right off from under it throgh all the gears and if not then it will wheelie with ease through all the gears. so with a gearing change def. over around 95-105 and still be able to pull pretty da*n hard. i can imagine how fast that 700cc 2 stroke dirt bike must run. i am 15 and was scared sh*tless on my buddies old cr500.

well it would have to be a good strong frame with good handling characteristics. basically tell your friend to go along the lines of a 250r/400ex frame. make sure he stays away from blaster frames, mojave frames, or other smaller things like that. because with all the speed of that engine you will need excellent stability and excellent brakes. i am not sure if any company makes a custom from with mounts already for the cr500, i know they do for a lot of the 4 stroke bike engines.
good luck
