K & N Filter Problem
#1
Last year I put a K&N filter on my Warrior and re-jetted accordingly. It ran just fine. This year after cleaning and re-oiling it, the bike ran horribly. It was as if the main jet was too big; sputtering at full throttle. Thinking I had over oiled it, I cleaned it again and just lightly oiled it. There was a little improvement but still not right. It runs great with the filter removed, but you can't ride that way. I tried going down a size on the main and grounding the reverse like I've heard caused problems, but that wasn't the problem either. Like I said, it runs perfectly without the filter and only became a problem after cleaning it. My questions are, has anybody else had this problem, what did you do to correct it, and do you think I might have a defective filter? I cleaned it with K&N products per their instructions. I need help quickly; going to the GNCC this weekend if I can get it right. I really don't want to change everything back to stock if I don't have to. Thanks for your input---Dan

Before you put the filter back on, you are giving the filter time to dry are'nt you? Did you try the filter on the machine before you oiled it? That should eliminate something wrong with the filter. Next, is the filter oil old? Do you have a bud that will let you use his filter oil? If all of this fails, trash the K&N and order a UNI (a free-flow filter that don't let fine particles through)with next day service being sent to the area that you will be racing! Cycle shops usually will help racers out all they can, so contact one in the racing area and ask them if it would be okay to have the filter sent to them so you could pick it up in time for the race.

Thanks for the input Gary. I just got off the phone with Dyno-Jet. The guy I talked to was very helpful and thinks I probably over-oiled it. I will do a little more trial and error tonight and see what happens.

No problem! One other thing on oiling your filter. While spraying your filter with the oil, when you see the surface of the filter change colors (to red or magenta)that spot is oiled properly, move on to another spot on the filter.
