Would it be better to change the front sprocket or rear sprocket for more low end on my 400ex

 

It is easier and cheaper to change the front. Taking one tooth off the front is equal to adding 4 on the rear(roughly). You can fine tune more with the rear.

 

If you go down to a 14 tooth renthal front sproket you will notice if you ride motorcross that you can keep it in 3rd even in the corners with little clutch work.

If he put on a 14 tooth, that would be going up, not down. Also, that would add more top end and less low end torque. But if that is the goal, then thats the way to go.

I have been informed by numerous people and my local Honda dealer that a smaller sprocket in the front has the opposite affect of a smaller sprocket in the rear. A 14 tooth sprocket in the front is equivalent to adding three teeth in the rear.

 

What size sprocket did you start with. I thought they came with 13 tooth stock sprockets. IF you started with a 15 tooth, then I guess your right

 

The stock sprocket is a 15 tooth. Thanks you had me worried there for a second.

 

hey slacker the stock teeth are 15 front and 38 in the rear. How well does your lt250 do on trails?
I like the lts 250 & 500 very fun.
