nickel plating 250r frame????
I've seen a chromed frame and it looked like crap for the most part. The problem with chroming a frame is that every imperfection of the frame is magnafied. Unless you have the time or money to get the frame polished first, I would stick with powder or paint. By the way, Almost Chrome powder coating doesn't keep it's shine very long at all.....

Thanks everybody........keep em coming
Well its looks like Im gonna powdercoat the frame red, and probably chrome or powdercoat silver the a-arms and swingarm. I will probably change the a-arms out eventually, but that is further down the road.
Whats a good color of red to powdercoat? I really like the darker red on all the Roll Design stuff, but I cant figure out what color it is?

how does chrome plating weaking it? i have had several parts on my truck chromed and had no problem, yet. they just stripe the part in an acid that should not hurt the metal then run it through different vates, copper, nickle then chrome then a rinsing tank. the temp never gets above 130deg. if you paint it look at some of the epoxy paints. they are tough as nails! all the piping in our plant is painted with epoxy paint and it holds up under all the chemicals, heat and dirt. powder coating would be the way to go and they have some really cool colors out now.

how do you think they get the stuff to stick to the parts while they are in the tank? They run high voltages through the parts. In addition to other metals, there are small amounts of other elements in the crystal structure of the metal. One of these is hydrogen. Chroming heats the metal so much that hydrogen near the surface leaves the alloy, weakening the structure. That is why NASCAR doesn't allow any chrome at all on stock cars. Polishing, on the other hand, removes all the miniscule suface imperfections that could be the beginning of a stress crack. While it doesn't actually strengthen the metal, it does remove weaknesses from the part.

nickel plating 250r frame????
Well I dropped my frame and motor mounts off today to get it powdercoated candy apple over metallic. He had a motorcycle frame in there that color and it looks sweet. Should have it back in about two weeks to see how they did. Cant beat it for under $200 for them to sand blast it, prep it and powdercoat it. Thought I was watching Orange County Choppers when I walked in there, he told they build the frames for OCC here in Oklahoma City at some other company, and he has powdercoated a few things for them before. He was telling me about a new episode coming out in January, sounds pretty sweet.
Performance Coatings in Oklahoma City. Cant wait to get it back. I will try to get some pics up of the frame when I get it back.
