Which frame to use with a 1000cc triple
I'm confused. The Arctic Cat 1000cc triple is not a Rotax engine (Rotax means rotary via Ski-doo).
How are you starting off with 150hp? Yes, it has 172 at the crank and yes you will probably lose 15-25 hp through the clutches and drive. However, when you have a quad with appox 35hp and you are going to 150hp, how is that not very fast? Maybe it wouldn't be fast because you would be sitting there spinning the tires.
I guess comparing 150hp to a 300hp engine would make it not that fast, but come on, you all are gettin a little carried away.

If you chose to ignore all the answers to your question, then in fact all your wanting to hear is praise and reassurance. They arent all that, they are single speed and heavy. That just isnt a good combination. You can add nitrous, a turbo and alcohol and it will help a lot. But stock is only going to embarass you.
You take a 500lb quad with 100 horse (your triple in stock form). Thats 1 horse per 5lbs. Then you take a 70 horse ported/piped banshee at 350lbs and you have the same power to weight ratio. Which bike will be faster? The banshee based bike.
Basically your doing a lot of work with fitting, custom pipes, wiring, ect. when you can pay a guy 400 bucks to port your banshee and be equally as fast.
To add on top of that. Your claimed 172 horse power motor losing 25hp through the clutch is only 14%. You'll lose twice that in your clutching. Its a dyno proven FACT

why will the quad way 500 lbs.? and where so you get your info from, is it from personal experience, have you built a snowmobiled powered quad, the only reason I ask is to see what you are basing your info on, I am not trying to be an as*, but I have friends that race snowmobiles and what they tell me is not the same as what you are saying, and as for single speed, you can mate a 5 speed tranny to a snowmobile

I have a friend who owns a dealership. He has a crank dyno and a track dyno, he also has a quad/cart dyno. That is where i get my numbers from.
Ive been in the drag racing scene for awhile now and i know first hand the sled motors arent what you guys crack them up to be.
Your bike will weigh a considerable amount when your done. A stock banshee motor is somewhere around 75 pounds. A triple sled motor is....? plus 3 pipes, carbs, ect. You'll basically have a big ol' boat.
My suggestion to you is if you want a big motor do a streetbike motor. Much faster, in the dunes, and less power lost through the drive train.
(i wasnt taking you as trying to be an ****)

Friend of mine has an 1100 air cooled Yamaha engine in a DS 650. Dang thing almost looks factory. You sit on the quad and don't see engine sticking out etc. He says its a joy to ride, the DS has such big suspension travel. Might be a little heavier than what you want, but it's a nice fit.

A good 1000cc open mod sled motor will put out about 260 HP, and run 5.1 to 5.3 in 660 feet, at speeds in excess of 130 mph.....that's not fast?
The right way to dyno a CVT is at the crank. CVT are always trying to shift up. you can't stay in a direct drive like on a standard, that is the reason for the Hp lost.
