Huge Engine Mod
#12
It can be cheap or expensive depending on your welding and fab experience. I have spent hours looking and thinking just to mount one small part. Just remember, you gotta look at the whole picture and not just the one part you are working one. I think the easiest part of the whole build was extending the swingarm. It was really the only mod I did that didnt affect mounting of other components.

GETUSUMMM... I've been thinking about doing that same project, however I was more thinking of a 4 X 4, & using an old chain drive Polaris 4 X 4 frame & drive train, then extending the swing arm... your project sounds well thought out... I'd be interested in some pics, or even possibly buying yours... if it's easier, you can e-mail any pics to... mwalker@smig.net

Sorry guys, I got delayed on getting home. Parts were supposed to arrive yesterday but didnt. Hopefully I will be home Fri or Sat and will be able to post pics. I did post some a few months ago, here are the links:

Since then I have installed a rebuilt stock engine and finished up the headlight area. I know its not alot of progress, but work has kept me real busy the last few months. I plan to tear it down and paint everything when I get home. While it is torn down I will go ahead and mod the engine just a tad. I am going to install a 3mm barrell spacer and a custom head(true squish head with interchangable domes). If I keep it long enough, the I will send the barrel off for porting, get larger carbs, and have chambers custom built to match the engine mods. Its a never ending process when racing, even when just play racing like i do. I just wish they had a pill to cure or curb the drag bug. If I keep the bike long enough, the engine mods will cost more than the whole bike. After all this, there is still the option of a BIG bore and stroker motor. I know of someone that is having a 7mm overbore and 4mm stroker gt750 engine built right now. I guess the sky is the limit, lol, and the checkbbok.

You can put an R-1 engine in a quad frame. I've seen one in a 400ex, Quadzilla and an LSR Banshee frame. I used the zilla because of the room. It just makes it a heck of a lot easier to fit everything in there and keep it looking like it was ment to be there. The advantage of a ex or banshee would be all the aftermarket stuff availble for them.

Oldsandman, did you have any problems getting that CBR to run good with those filters? Do you still have the velocity stacks in there? Did you machine your own plates to get the filters to work? If so you got any pics. I am at the point in my project that I have to decide to use the stock airbox and go through more pain making it fit, or go with individual filters. I was thinking of doing the I-beam like you did if I go with individual filters. Some people think it will run crappy and be hard to tune if I do this though. I am using a 97' CBR 600 f3 motor in an LT250R chassis. Another reason I do not want to use the stock airbox is because I don't think the plastic will fit and it will look funny. I want to be able to fit the stock plastic without too much modifcation. Also, it looks like you used the stock radiator? I was thinking of using my stock radiator w/ the CBR cooling fan on it. Think that will keep it cool? You can e-mail if you want jevs@charter.net. E-mail is quicker for me.
