Is there such a thing as a "bored" carb?

The guy I bought my Banshee from said the carbs were bored out. I said do you mean the cylinders, he said no the carbs. Has anyone ever heard of this? He said he had it done the same time he had Toomey pipes and a twist throttle put on it. He also had the carbs re-jetted the same time. He also said he had "carbon fiber"? reeds installed. I'm mainly interested in what he meant by by "bored" carbs.

Yes, Holyman, some carbs can be overbored to increase airflow/reduce restriction.

The main difference in, say a 32 mm vs. a 34 mm factory carb by one manufacturer may be the bore diameter; sometimes the external castings are identical.

If your seller had the carbs bored carefully by someone who knew what he was doing, the system can handle more intake volume with less restriction than the stock setup.

Instead of spending $400 dollars on a new carb. I spent $50 bucks and had my 32mm carb bored to 34mm. Haven't had a carb problem yet (knock on wood).....

Thanks for the info. He also said he changed the carb tops. Is this a typical thing to do when you bore the carb? I would like to convert back to thumb throttle when I get it up and running again (my friend crashed it) but the guy I bought it from said I would have to change all of the cables. That doesn't sound necessary. I lost his phone number after I bought it and his number is unlisted so I can't ask him directly. I appreciate all of your help.

I know that when you buy a twist throttle, you get the whole assembly. So there must be some differances in the cabling between thumb and twist throttle cables. I don't know what they are, but I know that they are indeed different.

Carb boring..... My dealer bored the carb the extra 2mm for me. I don't know what kind of tooling it takes or how they do it. I paid $50 dollars for the boring, 350X breather boot, and larger main-jet. Not a bad price.

(if you are interested, I can contact my dealer and ask what the carb boring all intails)

You will need new cables to convert back to thumb throttle.

Suzuki3 will I have to change all of the cables of just the upper one? I would think that there is a way to just replace the upper cable without replaceing the lower 2 as well. Do you know where I can get these cables?

Im pretty sure that when you buy a twist throttle for a banshee that you have to buy everything, so I would think so.
