Ganz, actually I was considering the HMF for a long time. It sounds like a great pipe that has great gains in performance. The only problem with the HMF is that I am looking for something quieter, while I have heard from numerous people on here that the HMF is on the loud side. Thanks though

Rock,

I got the quiet core with mine and it really isn't too bad. It's louder than stock but not overly loud. Without the quiet core in it IS very LOUD.

Thanks Ganz, I'll keep the HMF in the running then. I was close to buying it several times but I kept reading that it was really loud, and that the quiet core doesn't really make a difference. Also, what size are your 489XT's and how do you like them?

The quiet core helps a lot IMO. HMF's spark arrestor is forestry approved now as well.

I went with the 23x8x12 front and 23x10x12 rear on the XT's. I didn't want to lose power so I stayed with the stock size. They only weigh a few pounds more than the stockers too. So far I really like them. Traction is much improved over stock. Handling is the same or better. Now I put on ITP C-series Type 4 wheels and it's 4" wider in front and 3" wider rear. This sucker is really flat in the twisties handles much better than stock. Less weight for the motor to spin and it looks really great to boot.

Does repacking really make any difference in performance or just sound?

From the way I understand it, it affects both. When the packing is blown out, you notice a slight performance loss along with being louder.

ROCK... you are correct... I was running about 2 mph less in the 1/4 mile, at the drag strip, with no packing in my Big Gun, that what I was with the packing... I'm sure it'll vary by brand & canister style, but it definately effects both performance & noise...
