I have heard lightening your flywheel will make hp. Is this something I can do myself and not spend any money on?

Can someone that knows alot about this explain what I have to do and how much I have to remove and how?? Thanks.

Lightening your flywheel involves machining material for the outer surface(and in some cases the face). This reduces the rotating mass that the engine has to turn, this is where the HP comes from. It's there it is just now freed up to be used as output at the wheels rather than used us spinning the rotating mass.

It requires chucking it up in a lathe and removing about .1" from the periphery. It's easy to do, and to do wrong. Most hop up shops will do it for around $60. It's mainly used in drag race and hill racer set-ups. The flywheel provides inertia to help the engine keep turning smoothly(not vibration wise) when you shift or get off the throttle and back on, the flywheel retains some energy as rotating mass. The effect you would see riding, is that if you let off the throttle and got back onto it, it will most likely require a slight squeeze of the clutch to get the RPM's back. It will however, rev faster(mainly no-load), due to it being lighter.
