What else can I do to get the most out of my banshee motor without spending alot of money on it, besides aftermarket pipes, milling stock head, lightening flywheel, advancing timing.???

I want it to have mid/top end, so would reed spacers and boost bottle do anything there, i heard they are low end supporters.

what else can i do to it without spending alot??

thanks

Horse power cost money! Spacers adn boost bottle will not help. The next step would porting and bigger carbs, in that order.

Reeds spacers and boost bottles help to smooth out the power. They make no differnece in hp numbers. Everybody claims they do, but I have seen the dyno runs first hand. In addition tothis information, the question was how to increase top end power. Nobody has ever claimed that spacers or boost bottles increase top end. Actually, filling in the boost bottle intake in the manifold will increase the top end performance, while not using the reeds spacers will make the top end hit a little more abruptly.I would definelty recommend both products for a woods rider, but not for a top end screemer.

Hey Brandon,

I am having second thoughts on having my flywheel lightened. I do coal hillclimbs for fun, ride fast trails, sometimes I go to a track that is not owned by anyone and ride for fun, and I am most likely going to be getting into harescramble races.
what do you think??

Should I up the timing 4, get pipes, and up my compression?

As far as a head, think I should go with aftermarket, pro design, paul turner, or I think they are called "red head" or something like that with 18 or 19cc domes? or should I get my stock head worked and milled?? i live at about 1000ft above sea level

And one more question, Can I get my head shaved by a car race motor shop guy my dad knows really good he has plenty of machines.
Do you just shave the head like 50thoughsanths or do you have to mess around with the squish and domes and stuff like that??

thanks

The car guy could probably do it, but it is best to have a specialist do it. when a race shop does it they SHOULD know what the squish band is and exactly how much to cut or mill. A cool head would be simple choice and keep teh engine a little cooler. I would run 19 or 20 cc domes. This should put you around 140-150lbs of cranking pressure. I am not a fan of lightened flywheels. They tend to break and dont really makea big difference. I am a fan of timing advance. It is a very noticable difference. $ degrees would be good. Pipes are a MUST! Go with a good pipe, Toomeys, FMF, or LRD. All three of those are awesome, I personally prefer the LRD pipes. They have the broadest power band of any pipe I have ever used. Just remember that for top end hp do not go over board on compression or timing. Both boost low end and kill top end when used in excess. Some is good though.

Exactly what Brandon said about the car guy. I took my head to my "car guy" and told him to mill it .060. I did not know about a squish band(this was on my LT 2 years ag0) and neither did he. Needless to say I had to get it fixed. Take it to a specialist.

I've been debating about getting my head shaved or going with a cool head. I already have the toomey racing radiator to keep things cooler, so would the cool head be a waste of money?

The only reason that i feel someone needs a col head is when they need to run different compression ratios for certain situations. The cool head will keep the engine cooler until a certain point and then it is just as good as having a stock head. Once the water heats up you circulating HOT water, no matter how much more the head holds. The radiator should be good fix to an overheating problem. I would have a stock head cut and milled by Someone like Rudy at port magic. He makes the best heads there are.
