Default Verticle vs Horizontal

Heres the dilemma I am in ... I am fixing to put a motor in a trike or a bike frame. The frame wont be the problem. I have a motor but the only problem is that it is a verticle shaft. I would need a horizontal shaft for it to work correctly. Is there a way to make it work or do i have to find a different motor? Thanks

use a gear box out of a tractor. some have a pulley on the bottom and a sprocket on the side to run a chain from. or get a tractor rear end with the pulley on top.

Alright thanks for the idea. I think just finding a horizontal shaft motor will be easier in the long run.

yup use a horzontal put a clutch on it and a chain to a solid axle with a sprocket and away you go. no worring about the belt and crap. i did all that before with a vertical engine much easier with a horizontal. good luck with it.

Horizontal is about the best way to go. If you use the vertical your just about going to have to use some sort of gear box. You can find some in Northern catalog or on the internet but it's just going to be more $$.
