Everyone always bases their predator knowledge on what little they have seen. Predator automatically suck because of a crappy pred here and there, or a crappy rider. You guys want to actually see a fast predator, venture to Southwest Iowa......we have probably close to 30 of them around here, Some of which are running 4.5's.......oh and some of which are winning the A class mx races......


No doubt......we have more invested in the preds though......but that is the fun of it to us pred guys....is to take a slower, heavier quad and work with it to make it quicker than others......


oh.....and one more thought.........the Polaris 400's are very fast......be careful what you say.......

 

yea well you have to give it up for honda on the 450r!!! i meanthey will git on down the road and a very reliable, i personally think anyone debating on getting a 450r should. I just got one and it is bone stock and i can smoke my buddies 660 with a big bore and a pipe on it.

 

yeah but it just doesn't count when your buddy forgets to start his engine...

I love the 450r and all but I have a hard time believing that your stocker beat a big bore piped rappy unless he was just a horrible rider. If the rappy was stock then its a toss up for me, could go either way. My cousins piped, intake and jetted 05 rappy got me by 2 or 3 quad lengths when I was bone stock. When we were both stock I got him by a couple lengths. Rappys are quick out of the factory and really seem to wake up when you get them breathing right.

 

Id go with the Honda 450R. Nothing against the Predator, its a nice machine but the 450R is about 50 pounds lighter and in my opinion the 450R is more comfortable and just fits me better than the Predator.
Id like to see a stock Predator that beats a stock 450R because the drag races that Ive witnessed the Predators are usually at least 3 quadlengths behind after 500 feet.

I agree with you.Nobody likes to admit to getting beat but thats racing...oh yeah i ride a warrior and it's so fast that when you get that baby rolling down a hill all you can do is hang on.....Oh yeah that could be my bad breaks to...lol

Captain.......I doubt that is true......if so, the pred has bad drivers........I think the 450r is actually about the same speed as the pred.......the 450r might have the pred in 300 yards by a length.....but in 500, the pred I'd hope would be about beside it.......

The yfz on the other hand.......very quick.......

 

Well, I really cant say if they were skilled riders or not.
I attend an ATV drag racing event they have here in southern Wisconsin twice a year (its the largest event in the midwest) and in the 400-500cc stock class and 400-500cc mod class the Predator usually get beat by the 450s by about 3 quadlengths.
I just look at the weight. When you are talking about racing, 50 pounds is a HUGE penalty. Thats not to say that a skilled rider cant win on a Predator, but the weight is a penalty that anyone who races on a Predator has to overcome.
I think the Predator is great and its something that was long overdue from Polaris. Its at the very least a HUGE step up from the Scrambler. Win or lose, its glad to see that Polaris is finally making some real sport quads (not utility 4x4s with sporty-looking plastic).

Captain.......is that monkey butt?? If so.......the nicholas boys used to run their preds up there........and I'm sure they were towards the top.......actual race preds are the same weight as the 450's........


The old scrammys(2x4) and sports that polaris had ran pretty fast too......
