Default Air box lid, or no lid...

i purchased a k&n airfilter with a jet kit. obiously if i take my air box lid off my 400ex it will be sucking in more air. i live in vermont. i dont plan on riding my atv in the winter. when ever i come to a mud hole i avoid it, or pass through it slowly. i mainly ride in sand pits and tocky trails with few mud holes. would running my atv w/out the air box be a good idea? or should i just get it re jetted and leave the air box on. i could drill holes, but if i do that my holes will be permanent. duct tape is ugly and i wouldnt want to tape them up. i realize that is a solution. any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I would only run without a lid if I had a pre-filter such as OuterWears. Also check out K&N's airbox lid with pre-filter for $90 or less on ebay. Kinda pricy but I am sure that it would work out for you.
