Default KFX400 Jetting Problem

I have a 150 Main Jet and a Dyno Jet Needle on #3... I have UNI filter Full exhaust & no airbox lid... In order to start my quad i have to blow into the carb(so it gets more air)... does this mean i should move the needle position up to #2?

i would think if any thing your on the lean side , more likely the choke is to blame.
have you tried any larger jets, i know when my quadwas set up the way you describe, a 165 jet is what worked the best . even so there are all so a fare number using a 155 jet and the 160 . but blowing into the carb is a new one to me. how do you do that particular trick ?

Default KFX400 Jetting Problem

I have to take the boot off that runs to the airbox, and the seat of course... and then i just give it a good blow as a start it... I am at 300ft above sea level... if that helps any. Its wierd, I just bought a new stock carb... off ebay it has a pull choke and had a 150 main jet... i replaced the needle in it with mine. But i kept the main jet in it... My last carb i had a 145 jet in and it seemed like it ran fine... I think that if it was running too lean that i would not have to blow into it because it would already be getting too much air... thats why i think its running rich but only at idle and low rpm because onces its started it revs high with no hesitation no misses nothing... Any help??? Thats the reason i think that it would be the needle because the needle controls idle and low rpm jetting correct???

hmmm.blowing into your carb ????? well, it sounds like you need to adjust you air/fuel screw........ or change pilot jet.your needle is for around half throttle and your main jet is for half to full throttle.... if your blowing into your carb ,turn your air/fuel left 1 turns... i think that will let more air in. im at 300ft above and i use to run a 160-165 main in my bike.

make sure you put the needle back in the right way and not missing any parts or the spring isnt stuck. You need to adjust the fuel screw. Have it 2 turns out to start. A 155-160 mikuni (not dynojet)main jet should be good.

I would at least run a 155 mikuni for what you have. Definitely adjust air/fuel mixture.
