I have a friend who will sell me his 89 250r. I have an 86. I like the way my 86 handles, but his motor has way more power than mine. I already have shocks and whatever on my 86 frame, and think it would be way less trouble to just switch motors instead of suspension, axle, carrier, etc etc etc. So, how does the 89 motor bolt into the 86 frame? I think that the rear motor mounts are somehow different, if so, is it possible to do with little work, or is it a big chore? Which would be easiest, keep the motors in their frames and switch componenets or switch motors?

Yeah the engine mounts from all 250r engines 86-89 (including the 3 wheeler engine) all have the same mounting spots. The only difference between the 86 and 89 frame is the 86 uses 2 brackets which go through the swingarm bolt to mount the rear two mounts, while the 89 has the upper go through a frame mount and nothing through the bottom. So yes it is easily interchangeable.
