I choose k&n filters for most conditions because they are easier to clean and re-oil, and they are more idiot-proof when it comes to re-oiling them, because they use red oil on a white element so you can see if you miss a spot, with foam filters the oil is not colored, so it's possible to miss a spot and not know it, allowing dirt to slip past the unoiled section.

I would run the foam filter. I trust them a lot more then a paper filter and find them very easy to clean and oil. Dunk the filter in some kerosene, or use a foam filter cleaner then spray it with some oil....the stuff I use is dark purple so I can't see how you'd miss a spot. I think it's spectro filter oil.
