Go to the grocery store and buy a gallon of distilled water for about a buck......not exactly going to break the bank doing that....BUT!!!
Many anti-freeze formulations use silicates to help prevent corrosion. A little history of that. It was first noticed in Honda Goldwings that were brought in for service, the coolant system was serviced, the bike was sent back out, but only to return a while later with a bad water pump...the guys were scratching thier heads...what was causing the problem.....the silicate additive. The silicate was abrasive enough to eat the seals from the water pumps, causing failure. It was also noticed that many fleet trucks and city bus systems weren't using silicate anti-freezes, they had problems too.
Well, what type of anti-freeze should you use??? Genuine Honda anti-freeze is silicate free, also Prestone Extended life anti-freeze is silicate free. The Honda Service manual spec's to use a silicate free anti-freeze.....
