drag pipes or toomeys
#2
Typically a drag pipe, also known around some places as a side pipe, offers the engine builder a greater realm of possibilities of pipe design that isn't hindered by chassis considerations. The tuned length of a pipe can be made much greater with a drag pipe, a longer tuned length pipe will have greater top-end, and will compliment a higher exhaust port roove heigth than any production pipe can provide. Also the pipe belly(parallel body wall section) diameter can be quite larger, which in the case of big-bore motors is another of it's benefits. So yes, with a motor that has been highly modified a drag pipe will outperform any production pipe.

Backcountry is exactly right on everything that he said. However, I have a very good friend who owns a dyno and we did some testing. It involved a completely stock Banshee. We made a run:32hp. Same exact bike, but with toomeys: 46hp. Next we ran CT drag pipes: 51hp! Thats an increase of 6hp on a box stock motor over the toomeys. Now just think if the motor was ported to the pipe! I drag race exclusively in Ms. and LA. You feel the difference between the two.

At last, numbers that actually fall into the "yeah, that sounds about right" category. I was beginning to think it was not possible for someone to post credible data here.
Question. Is the quad going to be used for drag racing for the majority of the time? I couldn't see running drag pipes on a general use quad. If that's the case, then check out CT, Trinity, and LRD. All of these companies should provide what you are asking for. I've had good experiences getting good technical info from Trinity. Talk to Harry.

Everybody has different opinions on which pipes run the best. Most people use the STE's. I have seen FTZ's on the dyno and they were very impressive. I currently have C&O pipes on my bike. I like them allot. I have friend who has the CT's on his and he likes them. If you are interested in serious drag racing, I have a complete motor(pipes, carbs, FTZ full race ignition, overide tranny, ported cylinders, port mtched cases, trued and welded crank with long rods, billet clutch basket, cool head etc.(all done by C&O)) that I will part with for cash and stock motor. If you are interested e-mail me bcarter@i-55.com
