Working on Wolverine
#1
I have an 02 Yamaha Wolverine, which I am in the process of buying crap to build up. I would love any suggestions. Heres what I have so far, any advice would be welcomed whole heartedly.
400cc bbk from CWR
HMF exhaust
K&N w/outerwear
Dyna Jetting
Warn 424
I am wondering with the bbk, will I need another oil cooler? Can I get a larger one or will I just need to put a second one on? I know FST does stuff for these, and when they do the 446 bbk/s they put another oil cooler on. Want to make sure it is going to run right. Thinking of buying the second part of Gregs kit at CWR and stroke it while I have it broken down, haven't figured out if I want to yet tho.
Also need stronger clutch, thinking about replacing the plates, and going with an EPI kit, theres not many options for the Wolvy clutch unless I go with the FST manual clutch
Also looking at head work. Dont know what to do for cam tho, and valves. Dont know enough about them and what would be good. I want to make this a bike thats fun to ride and mud with. Looking at fabricating a new airbox outta aluminum, I have a full machine shop at my disposal and a man with 25+ years of expirence. Gotta love Dad. Also looking at a 2" lift for it, possibly and spacers. Can make the spacers ourselves.
Any other ideas for this? Everywhere I go with this question no one can answer it. I am going to start the bike in March when I get home from my Deployment. I am in Baghdad, so if you give websites or anything, I'm hoping it isn't going to be someone I have to call.. coughFSTcough..
So thank you for help.. Any advice would be welcomed, cuz like I said, I'm getting no where everywhere else.

First and foremost, thank you for your service to our great country.
As for your Wolvy, I have a 2000 that I have been slowly modifying for years. My dealer, who could very well sell me some useless junk, finally pointed out one thing to me. The Wolverine is a 350cc sohc motor. No matter how much money that you dump into it, it will never be as fast as a big bore ute or sport quad. You can have it polished and decked and also install a stroker con rod. FST carries stroker kits. I live in the same general area as FST and know a couple of guys that have had reliability issues with his parts. You have to machine the bottom of the case to accomadate the longer con rod throw.
I have a Hot Cam on my wolverine and I am pleased with the results.
White Bros. and Powroll also make Warrior hop-up parts , which in most cases will fit a Wolvy. Be aware that you have already done the least expensive mods.
As for cooling, if you are not running your jetting too lean, you may just go with the bigger cooler. I am running the stock cooler, but I only bored my motor to 365cc.
I am considering buying a 650 solid axle Brute Force. I rode a 450 Wolverine and could not have been more disappointed. I will still keep my wolvy. It has given me six years of dependable service.

Hey thanks for the reply. Been trying to get info here and there, not many people believe the Wolvy is worth a crap anymroe since its not huge and IRS and that stuff. But yeah it is definately worthy to have some attention, its a great engine, great bike and has worked of years now.
Knowing its only a sohc is half the battle right there, its a great challenge to try and ink any more power out of it. Didn't know all of that with the stroker, so thats good to know. I'll just do the 89mm bbk and then call'er good with boring. Can take it slightly larger, if I need to rebore, or can always buy a new top end off of ebay.
I am going to get a webcam and clutch springs, tahts all I have left and I am callin 'er quits for the lil bike. Kind of hard to play with a sra bike.
What I am looking at getting in the next few years is a AC 500m. You can definately play more with that engine wise and haven't heard a complaint yet. I love the manual shifting, auto cam. If I want a full man then I can always just hop on my Banshee.
Thanks for the reply tho.
