octane number
#1
I am getting a wiseco piston with a compression ratio of 10:25:1 and some people say that 93 octane fuel will work fine and some people say that it won't, could someone please confirm this subject. I don't want to use octane boost if i don't have to.

Big,
Some people think that anything over 9:1 compression is too much for pump gas... but there is SOOO much more to it than just compression ratio.
Camshaft profile, engine timing, and cylinder temperature play MAJOR effects on an engines resistance to pinging.(fuel knock)
To aid a high compression engine, install a camshaft that has alot of valve overlap; this will help to bleed off cylinder pressure at low engine speeds. (I wonder if anybody makes a degree wheel for an ATV engine... maybe my Comp Cams Wheel will fit.)
To help with keeping the heat of combustion in the gas and out of the head and cylinder wall (which improves exhaust gas velocity and greatly improves horsepower) order the complete engine coatings kit from Tech-Line Coatings. Follow the instructions EXACTLY and you will have very dramatic improvements over just adding the piston and camshaft. I've used these coatings on diesel engines and they DO work!!!.....
Good Luck!!!

Buy a compression tester (usually 20 to 30 bucks) screw it into your spark plug hole and kick it about 10 times with the throttle wide open. This will give you a fairly accurate reading. If your compression is 190psi or over you should be using higher than 93 octane gas. Good luck and don't forget to regap your valves. Waymod

The only reason to use anything other than pump gas is to prevent detonation. Run the least octane that you can run to develop the most hp. If your pressure is over 145-150 lb. you'll need to do something about it.
