Engine mod Question???
#1
I have a 2004 Wolverine and have done some mild upgrades already, like warn 424, k&n bolt on air filter and 25" Mud Lites along with a warn winch. All of these are great, but I have noticed going up hills and in some mud holes, I have been lacking some low to mid end power range. I'm not ready to purrchase a high dollar, loud exhaust but have been reading about doing a bore kit. I like the Powroll 365cc bore kit which comes with a 85mm piston that puts out 10.5:1 compression. This seems like a nice upgrade from the OEM 83mm at 9.2:1 compression. I'm also looking at putting a Hot Cam stage 1 in it while its all apart along with doing a mild port and polish job. My question is...After having done all of these modifications professionally done of course (because they are all outside of my expertise) am I jepardizing the reliability of my machine? I dont race but ride hard on the trail and do take excellent care of my equipment. I appreiciate everyones advice and 2 cents in advance.

IMHO, no you are not jeopardizing reliability. You will be fine with a mild build like this. With the higher compression you will put out a little more heat but that's about it.
I would forget about the port and polish job unless you get a REAL go shop to do it. Someone can screw it up more than help. Sure you could gasket match the ports and clean up some flashing but that is about as far as I would go.
You should have good results with what you are trying to do.

I just wanted to post an update. I have finially finished my mods and am extreamly happy with the results. I have definitely gained back the horsepower that my tire kit took and then some. I should have done these mods a long time ago...
