I just got a Compression guage today and was wondering what is the best way for checking Banshee engine compression.

I was thinking about removing both spark plugs, installing the guage on one cylinder at a time, putting the transmission into third or fourth gear and then pushing the bike with the clutch out for 20 or 30 feet.

Will this provide a true compression reading on each cylinder?

Is there a better way?

How far apart should I expect the cylinders to be from each other?

Thanks!

What I've always been told was to put it in N, (have the gauge hooked up of course - gas off). Full throttle, and kick over 4 or 5 times. Record this number and follow the same for the other. Now you'll have to call your dealer or find out from some other docs. what the compression should be.

I think that this question has been asked before here on another post!!!! ;-)

Pull both plugs, gas off, hold the throttle wide open, kick until the gauge stops climbing, wa-la, that's your reading.

Shouldn't vary more than 5% per side. Which would be ballpark about 10 psi for your application.

Probably a stupid follow-up question, but it should be in neutral...right?

Thanks!

Yes, in neutral and it may take may than four or five kicks. By the way, are you heading down to Cholla Bay this weekend?

Yes, in neutral and it takes quite a few healthy kicks. By the way, are you heading down to Cholla Bay this weekend?

If you pull both plug then do you need a split hose from the tester to both cyl.'s. My tester only has one fitting. Please explain further.

Mike:

I was down there all last weekend.

It was DEAD! Not one single quad on Comp Hill.

The weather was phenominal however! The best I have ever seen.

Marguerittavilla and Dunas were pretty wild. Spent most of my time there.

Manny's is huge. It has expanded to double it's size. Nobody was there however!

I'm headin' south for the Sand Drags next month. Do you know what the dates are?

You pull the other plug so it is easier to kick over. Repeat the same procedure for the opposite cylinder.
