Tranz455am,
The first thing I did with my Warrior was to dump the pathetic filter system that Yamaha has used for the last decade or so, and replace it with a Pro Design Pro Flow kit. This kit mounts an aluminum billet directly to the air box & the foam filter system clamps to it. When it is on, it's ON!, unlike the stock thing which is seated by the lid of the box, presumably. The kit is about $89 to $99 depending on the dealer.
You will see a marked improvement in engine performance, but more importantly you will do wonders for the life of your engine. You will have to rejet to one size fatter on your main for the improved air flow.

I've already modified the air box. I took off the lid and fabricated a system to hold the filter in place. (Heavy duty tape made of aluminum I believe. Costs a crap load and won't let go.) I've also taken the baffle out of the muffler. I cut the tip of the muffler off, the part that tapers down to about 3 inches, and pulled the baffle out. I have already rejet to 155 main.
I think I'm going to go with exhaust. Then maybe a cam?

I highly recommend you don't touch the engine till there is a pipe on it.

Had a 99 Warrior. (bought a 400ex) Anyways, I totally disagree with the above posts. I got a 10.25 to 1 Wiseco Piston and a White Bros 390 cam and Titanium valve springs. It made a big improvement and didn't make it much louder at all. Later I bought the White Bros pipe and it made it even faster. Those parts are about $300, but labor would obviously be more $$$ than install of a pipe.

I just bought a E-Series Pro-Meg from Moto Man for $229.00--that's about an average price you'll find in the mags. It bolts right up and is rather loud with all 12 supplied discs, but my Warrior is now a lot more responsive on the bottom end than stock. To be honest though, I was hoping the pipe was going to give me more power than it did. I side with Cal (hot_shoe_cv) on the filter issue, as the best mods I've done so far after the pipe are a Pro Flow filter kit with a vented airbox lid--these two items with a bigger main jet really woke up the bike, especially on the bottom. Sorry to be blunt though, you can tape the crap out of the factory filter setup and it's still pathetic as heck, and as for me I'd be scared to run the stock filter without the lid. Do yourself and your Warrior a favor by getting something that filters and breathes better than the stock filter--you could also run a K&N filter with the Pro Flow adapter rather than a foam filter.
