Valve upgrade.

how would titanium valves help my 400ex? I have heard some info about them. All I know or at least all I can come up with is that it would let your engine rev faster?? but i don't know? any suggestions?

Yes they are lighter and they would help, but how much? Mostly likely would not be a difference that you would actually feel, not to mention that they are very expensive, that you could take that money and make alot of mods that would make a huge difference.
I am rebuilding my EX and talk with Tom at TC about stainless valves and he told me not to touch the stock valves until there was something wrong with them.
Try giving TC a call during the day, he will set you straight and sell you only what you need. He actually talked me out of spending $550 on my motor! TC's number is 814-723-3514.
I talked to several motor builders and they all tried to sell me stuff I didn't need. I wanted to do about 7 mods and Tom told me to do only 3 with XC racing.

What are your 3 mods going to be? I know I ride in the woods alot, and i was thinking of a taller tires, K&N airfilter and jet kit,a promeg R-4 series exhaust, a 416 kit with a high compression JE piston,wb all round cam(not race), and a port and pollished head with a 3 angle valve job.

Hey Klem;
The piston, cam and valve job sounds good. It depends on what you want to do with it, but if you want woods, those mods sound good. TC suggested not to do a thing to the head in my case. Since I am running stock carb (torque and fuel mileage), proting the head does no good since the stock head already outflows the stock carb by a large amount.
I have a 11:1 Wiseco, TC's cam, valve job while it is apart and lightened flywheel. I have a WB E-series slip on, barnett clutch and a K&N and that is it with the motor. I am putting it together this weekend and will hopefully be riding pretty soon. I am also waiting on a rear shock. I talked with several engine builders before I decided on this and as I posted before, TC actually talked my out of alot of mods. Good luck with yours.
