2003 TRX 300 EX.....................PLEASE HELP
I bought a used 03 honda trx300ex which looked in fantastic and in awsome shape. The seller told me all it needed was a piston and ring kit. I know I shouldnt believe him but I saw the quad and said wow this is in awsome shape, so i bought it. But I took the top half off and saw that the crank was seized and metal falkes where visible. I Called around a few repair shops and prices range from 1200 to 1500 to fix it.
So my question is what other motors will fit this model?
Where can a get an engine or a bottom half motor for a decent price.
Please dont bust my stones about this either....I'm a freakin a$$.
Any help in this matter will be great.
Thank You and Ride On

As far as the motor, might try ebay or maybe try and find someone parting a quad out but then again that's a gamble.
Should probably consider if it's worth investing that money toward this quad or putting it toward buying another quad that is already running and hopefully well maintained.
With the motor in that kind of shape, the transmission could be junk but it may be fine.
I have bought in the past and am currently working on a "project" quad. One that you buy cheap and by the time you get done could have just outright bought one and started having fun.
Don't be so hard on yourself. This is probably one of those "live and learn" experiences that we've all gone through.

yeah the 350x sounds like a good conversion, but good luck finding a good motor.... I knew of a guy that had 2 crate 87 models, and he wouldn't part with one for $2000. So Good luck, might try your local salvage yard and just see if they have one that has a good bottoem end and start from there...

If nothing else, a 250X motor is a bolt in, it is the same as the 300ex, just a kick start instead of an electric. Find a good motor, bolt it in, or mod it first, either way, you will have a sharp looking quad with a great running motor. The 250 was a very peppy motor, I believe the cam was a bit more aggressive than the 300ex, and with a little bore and piston work, you could have more hp than a stock 300 motor, If kick start is ok with you. 250 X motors would be a lot eaiser to find than a 350x, and no mods are needed to bolt it right in.
