LT250 or LT500 for GSXR 1100 Project
#1
Hello Gang, This is a first for me in a forum so if I make a mistake in edicut or anything just let me know, I'm a fast learner.
I have a 92 GSXR 1100 engine and everything I could take off the bike. It only had 17M miles on it so it should run pretty good. I wanted to build a single seat sand rail but dont have 10 grand laying around plus I have a Wonderful wife to curb my toy spending. (She picked up where my Mom left off) I think an LT500 would make a good doner but I know of a LT250 basket bike. I am wondering if the LT250 would work equally as well as a LT500. Any other sugestions would be appreciated.
Thank's

I would go with the 500 becouse it has more room for the build and it has a better and stronger chassis and suspention. I used the DS 650 and it works great.

I am currently building a lt250r/gs500e..... I was lucky to start with a complete motorcycle, and a lt250r rolling chassis..... after much thought and discussion. I decided to use the deltabox frame that came with the bike... and chop out the parts of the lt250r's frame I need. As the 500 motor was too tall and upon finding many cracks in the lt250r frame... I have about 2 to 3 weeks of work left on it (evening time). lots of welding... This was 1987 frame... like you I am limited on funds... so far I have $150 invested...... the main thing is planning... the lt250r swingarm bolted in place of the gs500...only I have since decided that the rear axle is not back far enough... so I am about to cut out the rear of the lt250r's frame and weld into the gs frame..... it's things like this which extend build times..... Also I have a shot at a gs1100e... but common sense has to enter into the equation somewhere.... :/
