I need input on setting the preload on my rear shock. Does turning the adjuster screw down increase or decrease preload. How much preload should I have (I am 6'2" and 230 pounds). Input is greatly appreciated.

Look at your back shock...you'll see two nuts on the top of the spring...they set your preload....the screw on the top of the shock sets your compression and the screw on the bottom sets your rebound...you'll need a speical wrench to change the preload (or you can use vise grips). when you set it keep in mind that the spring assist the shock when you land on jumps or hit bumps etc. So if you make it compress the spring more you won't bottom out as easly but it'll ride much more rough. If you make it compress it less it'll do just the oposite..it'll ride nice over small bumps, but when you hit big ones it'll will be more likely to bottom out.

Thanks for the reply. One other thing about the preload. It appears that I have about 2.5-3 inches of sag. Is this normal-should I decrease the sag since the rear end is dropping more than the front when I mount the quad? If so, how do I adjust the sag? Thanks once again!

 

You can also adjust the spring nuts with a punch and hammer to turn them.
