Here is a real conversion guys! And it is a sweet one! It begins with an idea I had. My father who is a mechanical engineer, thought we could do it! AND WE DID! well In 1996 I bought a brand new 300EX. In 1998, my younger cuzin got on it in the winter and sat and spun on some ice for about five minutes in first gear! WIDE OPEN!!!!! I think you know what i am going to say, the engine seized up and it threw the rod, i wasnt home, but needless to say i was pissed, well I had a sweet and radical idea! My older brother is a motocross racer, he races a CR500R cycle. So he goes through a couple engines a year, well i asked if he would give me one, he did, and i rebuilt it! Now that two stroker is stuffed underneath the seat of my 300EX frame, along with its wide-ranged 5 speed. Well this bike now goes about 85-90 mph, and i havent had it clocked, but it is sweet and this screamer is unstopable!!!! thanks and if you have questions ask!!!

How bad does it vibrate, and at what rpm is it the worse?

It vibrates very little, but yes it does, it vibrates around 7000 rpm, and up

Sounds like the quad's performance is exceeded only by your modesty, Ranger!

Or is it, your modesty is exceeded only by the quad's performance?

You say you haven't clocked the machine yet. Will it outrun a '00 Trail Boss?

Do you ride with a helmet when on these 90 mph rides?

Ranger, my comment about the Trail Boss related to your previous flaming of someone who asked about a '00 Trail Boss' top speed. I thought your somewhat boastful account of your own hybrid quad's performance somehow ironic. I should have addressed my concern directly to you instead of making an ambiguous comment; I apologize for my bad judgment.

You solicited questions; I have a few.

I understand your father implanted an engine, producing a 90-mph quad, and told you to go ride it at that speed, and you did. Where? On the freeway?

Many 4X4 pickups and SUV's are capable of 90 mph; however, few drivers reach that speed cross-country or even on gravel or graded roads, especially where curves appear. Where do you ride at this tremendous speed?

What is the stability and control of your quad like at 90 mph? Can you change direction easily, when avoiding obstacles, for example?

Since shocks, springs, steering and brakes were designed by the manufacturer for the spectrum of loads encountered at much lower speeds, I wonder at their safety and effectiveness at velocities higher than their design envelope contemplated. ATV tires aren't certified for street or highway use, much less high speeds; what are the consequences of a blowout or tread separation at 90 mph? Do the brakes show any tendency to fade or overheat with high speed application?

May your 90 mph rides all end safely; glad to know you wear a helmet!

Tree Farmer: Thats the price you pay to play. If your afraid of getting hurt at 90 mph..don't go that fast.

Now, if you were not truely concerend with his wellbeing and trying to be sarcastic, doubting if he has reached those speeds...disregard my post.

While capable of sarcasm, Roostmonkey, my questions are serious and genuine in this case.

As to being afraid to go fast; there's a difference between taking a managed risk and suicide in my opinion. I've collected a few Chrondek timing slips (and trophies, he said, modestly!) with my modified motorcycles; however, all critical components (tires, brakes, suspension, steering) supported the extreme effort, all verified by race official technical inspection.

My point: I doubt a showroom stock chassis sedan, even with a Dale Earnhardt engine, or its driver, would survive even one lap of any major NASCAR race. Critical components must be modified for the added stress produced by extreme speed for safety and effectiveness. I believe the interaction of related components are worth looking at for quads with major performance mods, like Ranger's.

Maybe not. You're entitled to your opinion. And yes, I'm genuinely concerned for Ranger's physical safety along with the safety of all ATVers.

Tree Farmer: Thanks for clearing that up. No flame intended when I posted that.

Now, I think that a 300ex can handle those speeds safely, if done in a reasonable area. Flat, long, smooth, sand or gravel areas are good places. As long as the 300ex is in good mechanical condition he should be alright. The suspension, brakes, steering, shocks, and springs would all be fine in this type of situation. I doubt he was going 90mph on a mx track, mountain trail, or heavily wooded area. At my favorite riding area there is a 4 or 5 or 10 mile flat area that I like to take my dirtbike up to warp speed on. Nothing like the rush of 6th gear pinned for 5 minutes straight. Of course that was only 60mph maybe(who knows)...90mph would be a rush.
