Hell yes! And so is an aftermarket header and pipe, and an air filter, and a rejet, and all the other hundreds of things you do to increase performance!

Everybody is tripping all over eachother to spend big bucks and make all those other mods, but when it comes to oil, everybody turns cheap $hit for some reason.....

True, but will I be buying all those parts every time I change the oil?

For the racers, yeah every little bit helps. But for the average rider, it's tossing money away, IMO.

I'm spending NO bucks on any of those things. I'm not trying to make a 250 perform like a 400 or anything stupid like that, although I see a lot of other people do it. Will that oil still help me? How much does it cost?

So why in the world do you even bother to come to the "Performence Mods" forum????

Well, the "average rider" will get far superior protection from these oils, and improved performance as well....why doesn't that make sense? The difference between run of the mill petroleum oil and high performance oil, is the price of a beer....

<div class="FTQUOTE"><begin quote>But without a doubt a synthetic oil, or even partial synthetic oil will protect better than straight dino oil.... many studies have confirmed this.</end quote></div>
Not according to this study. And it's a big study.
The surprising truth about motor oils
<div class="FTQUOTE"><begin quote>Dino oils turn to sludge so much faster and at such a lower threshold that using synthetic in your ATV is just a smart money bet. It will protect your valves so much better it is not funny because there is just less carbon deposit available....... even frequent oil changes with dino oil cannot protect the same as synthetics......you get what you pay for.... </end quote></div>
I don't know what this means. I have NEVER had sludge in any of my dino oil engines. I mean none, nada!!!!! As far as valve contamimation goes; I have only had one engine that had a slight amount on the valve head. This engine was a small block and had over 175 thousand miles on it. When I pulled the heads off the valve guides were out of spec.
If you see carbon on the valve head I can guaranty the guides/valves/seals are out of spec big time.

Look, here is something to think about. A super bike engine that can wind 12K is in no way comparable to a quad engine that sees 7 or 8K max. When you spin a crank that fast it does makes a difference when slinging through oil. You can pick-up HP by running syn oil. How much? Very, very little.

When running a dry sump the gains get even smaller. Most of the oil is sucked out of the pan and not much gets in the way of the crank in the way of windage.

Can you call syn oil HP in a bottle? Ya, I guess; but it's like calling a K@N filter, a supercharger in a filter. If you think 1/4 to 1/2 HP at 3 times the cost or more is a good deal, knock yourself out.

WTF beer do you drink??? LMAO!!!!!!!!!

Lets do some math again.

I can get Rotella T at WW for 2 bucks a quart. My V takes 3.something quarts so I need to buy a gallon of oil. Thats 8 bucks for an oil change in my V.
The last time I checked that Maxima you push so much it was 12 bucks a quart for the full syn oil.
12X4 is 48 bucks to change oil in my V!!!!!!! 40 bucks difference!!!!!!

Damn expensive beer if you ask me!!!! ROTFLMAO

1. To see other people's performance mods.
2. To see other people's project quads.
3. To see if there are any performance mods that give you a lot of bang for the buck.
4. To see if you're ever going to tell people how @#$%^&* much this oil costs that you've been talking about on at least a couple of different threads since at least last month.
5. I want to protect my engine too, so if this oil is as good as you keep saying it is I'm interested.

I answered your question promptly, as soon as I saw it, but you haven't answered mine or Scooter's about price and availability yet. You're all Q's and no A's. What's up with that?

Edit: Is it really $12 a quart? I need 2 quarts at a time so that's $24. I can get 1/2 gallon of fine Kentucky Straight Bourbon whiskey for the same price as 1/2 gallon of oil. I would enjoy the whiskey a lot more.

I haven't really seen sludge, but some aluminum looking paste that resembles valve grinding compound or just clutch particles mixed with oil. Nothing even remotely similar to what I've seen in cars though, lol.

<div class="FTQUOTE"><begin quote>If you see carbon on the valve head I can guaranty the guides/valves/seals are out of spec big time.</end quote></div>

I can 2nd that. Or lash wasn't set right for a long time.

I think most single cylinder cranks are round though... Nothing to really splash into the oil. At least mine is.

That's a good one. I needed a good laugh!

Turbo....that article you posted is from freaking 1996! It is ancient and way way outdated. Lubrication technology changes on a daily basis, with the discovery of new organic friction modifiers and anti-wear additives. It's a different world....

This is a classic example of how some people are unable to accept new technology that they are unable to comprehend!!!

Take a step out of the stone age folks.....
