Honestly the best advice I can give would be to base your design on an already existing quad. So in other words find a frame (even if broken) and copy it.
If I was going to go in the direction you were going I would base a chassis on the 250r design. and stick whatever motor you wanted in it.
Although this is just my opinion, because I like MX. If you wanted a drag quad then the sky is the limit. I know someone who is build ing a custom chassis for a kawasaki four cylinder and running Polaris plastic.
