Default Winter Storage

In a couple weeks I will be putting my quad away for the winter. At least for a few weeks.

I purchased a can of Stabil (http://www.goldeagle.com/STA-BIL/products.htm), but wanted to check here to be sure I can put it in my quad without causing damage.

I have a 2008 Honda Rancher 4x4, no mods yet. Thanks

I believe that it reccomends in the manual to add a bit if storing. I put it in bike, mowers, sled when I store them. The atv on the other hand gets used year round.

You could also fog the motor with SeaFoam.

For long storage periods double dose the Stabi instructions amount, it will not hurt anything.

o man, Scootergptx are you suggesting putting seafoam in the cylinder??? i have heard of people storeing bikes for years by putting OIL in the top of the cylinder. but oil would be ok because anything in the cylinder will pass the rings and go down to the crank case. i would not recomend useing seafoam in the cylinder, UNLESS you change the oil emideatly after you get it out of storage. otherwise any foreign substance, like gas or seafoam, will dilute you oil and can ruin its effectiveness as a lubricant.

for just a few weeks or a "winter" storage i recomend draining the carb bowl and putting in a full tank of fresh gas with a double dose of stabuilt. mabe a battery tender on the mechine if you have one.

No bowl on a EFI for gas to sit and stagnate.

Put the recommended amount of Sta-Bil in a tankful of fresh gas and run the engine 5 minutes. If it's going to be stored very long put a spoonful of motor oil in the cylinder and turn it over a few times.
