CR head Gasket
#2
It all depends on what head gasket that you have on the quad now. If you have the metal gasket from the 88-89 you will notice a big difference. If you are using the gasket material one from the 86-87 no, because the are the same or very close to the same as the CR. The reason that people want to put the 86 paper type head gasket on is that it is thinner than the metal gasket. By having a thinner gasket on the head, it decearse's the volume inside the dome. Thus rasing the compression ratio giving you more power. I hope that I used the correct terms.

I felt a difference on my 88. The Compression went from 170lbs to 192lbs which is just over a 10% gain in compression, also no awful close on running race gas, so I run a mix.
Check your compression first and make sure your cylinder and rings are in good shape. Stock compression will be between 150 lbs and 165 lbs.
You can be a compression gauge at any auto parts store and they have instructions.
If you run a CR headgasket with a Cool Head, you have to put a thin film of sealant on both sides of the gasket or you will have minor coolant leak at the head.
