Blaster Crank?
#1
Hey I'm new to the board, I was wondering if any of you knew where I can get an inexpensive crank for a blaster? I took the blaster to a shop after not being able to get it to idle after I put in boyesen power reeds and they said the crank has a slight bend to it, I'm not sure what to beleive, it was running perfect before I put the reeds in and I rode it every weekend without any problems. What do I do I havent tried to start it in a long time for fear the crank might be bent. Thanks!

hmm, nothing was mentioned about taking apart the motor by them or on the receipt, they only replaced 1 crank seal because they took off the side cover and oil was leaking everywhere. But how could u tell if the crank or rod was bent without taking the cases or topend apart?I just think I might have been lied to...

Oh yeah.. never thought of that... mabe its just something stupid? You'll need to re-jet with the new reeds, try adjusting your idle screw or air screw, the one on the left side of the carb while sitting on it, be careful, a little turn goes a LONG way and it is very easy to overrevv it..

Well, I took off the side cover and the crank in fact is bent, but not to a point where anything rubs like the magneto or anything, can I still ride it like this? Also I was checking out stuff on the quad, checked to see if it has a spark and it doesn't, checked and found that a black wire leading to the "ignition coil assembly" looks like it was cut, is this a ground wire and could this cause it to not have a spark? ugh...this blaster is giving me so many problems, I just need to get it fix it and get it outa here, Looking for a 250r.

How did you see the crank with the side cover off?
I would think it would be really hard to tell from that. It does not sound like a crank problem anyways....Try a different shop. It needs a tune up.
Does it turn over easily/quietly?

You might be able to see some run-out(wobble) on either end of the crank from the primary drive side(clutch) or the flywheel side. Any run-out in excess of just a couple of thousands is going to cause extreme vibration, possibly to the point of component failure. Repair is required. Don't start it or ride until it is confirmed straight, and repaired if required. The next question to be answered before or during repair, is what caused the run-out???

well I took off the left side cover, then the flywheel i think it is? and kicked it over, you could see the end part of the crank that the flywheel sits on moving all over the place because its bent.now that you mention about extreme vibration from it being bent i guess this has been going on a long time, in may of 2000 the front motor mounts cracked and the side of the frame did as well, i got new mounts welded in and the side fixed. But yea the motor turns over easily without a problem.Does anyone have a clue how much a crank would cost?the shop that told me it was bent wanted somewhere around 450 to install a new one.i think im just gonna buy one and do it myself.
