Just a thought. Seeing how you can advance the timing on a 2000 scrambler 500 4x4 and I have 1/2 drum of 116 race gas setting here Are there any potential gains on a stock 500 advancing the timing and running race gas?

Very little if any at all. You can time the burn rate just right but you still don't have the cylinder pressure to bring the fuel burn rate up quickly.

You would make more power; way more power by using any O2 fuel. Any fuel that has alkie in it will make more power because it has O2 in it. O2 is what you want and not the BTU rate.

How about switching to alky. It is possible.

Sure you can switch to alkie.
It will cost you a big buck carb because you will need almost twice the fuel flow. Most stock carbs do not have big enough passages to flow that amount of fuel.

There is some gain with a stock compression piston on alkie but not a whole bunch. Now if you go to a very high compression piston and then go to alkie.......then your talking power.

All that said there is also problems with alkie.
You have to purge the fuel system everytime after you ride. Then there is problems with water. Then you will burn twice the fuel so you will get half the mileage. Then you will have to take a drum of fuel with you everywhere you go...........and on and on and on........................
