Crank Works , EXCELLENT!

I know we all hear about crappy parts company's and that is great to know, but so is a good business.
I had to have my rod and bearing replaced and I called CrankWorks in AZ on a monday and told them I needed it back for a race. I aired it to them on Tuesday (They received it on a WED) and I received it on THURSDAY!!!! UNREAL. They got it Wed, machined and installed a new Carrillo rod, balanced AND shipped it the SAME DAY and Phil even told me they were pretty busy for Memorial day.
FOR ONCE, Complete happiness when you buy something!!!!! H^$L YEA!

If you get the crank balanced, do you still need the counter balancer? An FL350R's counter balancer does not drive anything else like a water pump. I already get a pretty good shake going if I rev it in neutral. The Wiseco pistons are not the same weight as the Honda's and I am spinning it to 9K.

That is a good question, one of those that make you go hhuuumm? I don't think the counterbalancer in the 400 motor drives anything, so asking if it could be eliminated I can't answer, but I will call crankworks and see what they have to say.
I installed my counter with the marks and mine is running smooth. Also, they didn't balance with my piston.

The FL400R counter balancer drives the water pump. The ignition is on the left side vs. the right on an FL350R. I don't know if it uses the same type of ignition setup as the TRX250R.
Then again, you could be talking about some other 400 that you had listed in your sig, but since they deleted our sigs, I just don't know.

I have to agree with Adams44. I used to work with Phil before he had his own business and everything he does has always been the best. He is probably the best crank builder in the industry and will always try and accomodate the customer. If you need anything from a simple rebuild to a big stroker crank he is the one to go to.
On another note, if you remove the counterbalancer from any motor you are going to get a lot of vibration. Try sticking a non-counterbalancer motor in a quad and it shakes you to death.

Run that counter-balancer! A quad requires the use of a counter-balancer due to the gyro effect the rear wheels & axle creates. As revs increase so does the tire size causing a turbulance if you will on the motor. Most dirt bikes do not require the use of a counter-balancer as there is alot less rotating mass and the tire size for the most part stays the same, though many of the new 4-strokers are coming with them to create a very smooth running engine. Do not get me wrong taking it out creates a VERY high revving motor, you will just need to re-weld your frame every weekend and bearing maintanence will get crazy.
