96' WARRIOR IGNITION PROBLEM
#1
I was hoping that someone might have some advice as to what might be wrong with my warrior. I have had some modifications in the motor and am currently running a keihin carb with k/n filter. and fmf pipe. right now I'm having problems with the ignition system. I have a faint spark that isn't hot enough to start the machine. I checked the battery and it's been fully charged and load tested. the starter has been checked and the complete wiring has been cleaned and checked for continuity. I went through the steps in diagnosing the ignition system and the ignition coil was out of specification. I replaced it with a used coil from east coast atv and the problem still exists. my electrical knowledge is not as good as I would like it to be and would appreciate any help or suggestions. before the machine wouldn't start, it ran great, but lately it has been hard to start after it heats up. I could push start it for awhile but that has been getting harder too.

With these symptoms, I'd say it's the CDI. Unfortunately, there's no real good way to check the CDI, even the expensive systems sometimes test a bad CDI and read good. The only way to really tell if it's the problem is to replace it!
If you have a friend with a Warrior, ask to borrow his CDI, this is the quickest and cheapest test.
If it's not the CDI, then the next thing to check is the Stator. Remove it and check for cracks around the insulators and posts. These can be tested by any electrical motor shop.
One stupid question, have you replaced the spark plug?
Did you have the frame painted? If so, make sure you've got your grounds all solid to metal and not on a painted surface (especially a problem with powder coating).
Hope this helps.
