The frame kit is $6900. The tranny outside the kit is $1350 which is comparable to a Roberto gear box in price and durability. The axles are $1000. The reason the axles are so much is because they can attain 44 degrees of angle vs. 22 degrees for VW and 24 for Porshe 930 ones. If you start adding up the price of the components you need, you'll see that $6900 is reasonable.
Another way to look at the $15K for a turn key Drakart is to compare it to a Pilot that you would pay at least $5000 for a decent one, $2000 for front long travel, $3000 for the rear, $3000 for the CR500 conversion, porting, etc. and you are at $13000 with an over 10 year old machine with less supension travel and will still be beat by a Drakart. Here is a clip of me beating 2 of them set up that way at a race in Peoria, IL. There are also a couple Genesis cars, a Triple E, two other Drakarts and some custom built machines following me. Don't be fooled by that white Drakart bring up the rear. It came in first in another race with a different driver behind the wheel.
Mine is a 2000 model year. The same as tested in Dirt Wheels. I have seen the 583 listed as both 102 and 104 HP. I don't know which is correct. It has 15" of travel in the front and 14" in the rear. It is amazing. These type of machines typically push in the corners. As you can see in the picture above, I am counter steered in the corner. With all the suspension travel, you can just cruise over whoops without even realizing how fast you are going. Alain Fricker, the owner of Drakart, has been at Silver Lake a couple times with a demo car. If you think you are in love now, you won't be able to contain yourself after taking a test ride in one. I started figuring out how I could afford one right after I test drove one.
The 2001 model uses the 600 reed induction that replaced the 583 rotary. I think it is 110 HP. The cockpit area is larger to accomodate larger drivers. It has 16" of suspension travel front and rear. It has an adjustable pedal assembly. The pedals can be moved forward or back. Alain said having the seat move would ruin the 50/50 weight balance. There are a few other enhancements over the 2000.

Hi Solo, this thread is around 13 years old. Things have probably changed at the company mentioned. Try giving them a phone call. Might be able to head you in the right direction.
