I was just browsing the classfieds a few minutes ago and saw an ad for a Polaris scrambler top end and the guy said it would bolt right onto a 250r? I somehow think this is bull, but I guess you never know. I know that you can put a honda pilot top end on the R but I was under the impression it took crank and case work to do it, plus its a honda.

Is there any truth to the polaris thing?

i know some of the better 400 big bore kits for 250r's use the polaris top ends... the crappier ones use the top end off a pilot.

It's not a direct bolt up. It does require some case machining to get the larger sleeve to fit within the cases. A YZ piston and a spacer will work to get your deck hgt somwhere near where you want them.

Dave Moore, of MP Racing in Salem Ore makes them, he calls them Polondas. They are pretty fast!!!

What kind of frame is that in? It doesnt look like a stock 250r frame, but I could be mistaken, just doesnt look like stock motor mounts.

Go to the dune zone on this site and go to the article about sandfest they talk about and show a picture of a 250r using a polaris 400 top end.

Fixed link

The Pilot cylinder requires case welding and stroking. The bolt pattern is larger. The Pilot is a 79mm stroke vs 72mm for the 250R. The Polaris is 70mm so the conversion is actually a larger displacement.

I'm not sure if there is enough sleeve material there, but a YZ490 piston has the same diameter wrist pin with an 86mm bore vs. the 83mm bore of the Polaris.
