I recently got my 400ex, and I am pleased with it, but more is better especially with power. I have spent a lot of time reading up on hp mods, more specifically those which do not get into the motor, like pipe, jetting, air flow. After a LOT of post-reading, I am confused and a little disheartened. If a simple mod to the stock pipe, XR 400 tip will give the increase as well as an aftermarket pipe, why spend the money, and sacrifice sound? If the 400 head flows more air than the motor needs, why jet or modify the airbox? It sounds like the best value for the money is more cubic inches. Would I then need to reconsider and go for the other goodies? Am I way off with all of this? Some suggestions from you would be great. Thanks John

It seems that things are changing as fast as you get the first mods figured out. Then you find out something new just cropped up that make your first mods archaic.

I understand your confusion, My LRD header and slip on is only 6-months old. And now I find out that it has been updated again to be even better.

I don't mind, Everything must evolve. The one piece of advise that seems consistent, That I can give you is. New pipes and jetting kits make a world of difference. Done right, the quad will feel almost twice as fast as stock. A couple gearing tricks can't hurt either.( ie- set it up for where you ride).

Pam is pretty good isn't she. She has made me do a Tim Allen, Aaarrhhuuuuuaa. From time to time. And "99-forum awards" winner - Milk carton member.
