what would cause a high pitch whisle or wine from a new Polaris Sportsman 500

It's probably the engine braking unit.
Does the pitch of the sound get higher as you go faster and lower when slowing down?
If so, that's PROBABLY what you're hearing, but it could be numerous other things including bearing(s).

I've seen a lot of Sportman 500's with the same thing you describe. So far every one has had a dragging back brake. I always pop off the caliper and pull the pads off. I spray a little bit of WD-40 on the piston in the caliper and it seems to take care of the problem. The whole process takes less then 5 minutes.
