jag 340 snomobile engine in odyssee frame?
#1
hey, i'll probably be pickin up an odysee pretty soon and i wanna do a lot of stuff to it and make it into my
woods cruiser. i have an old jag 340 snowmobile (1976 i believe). do you think it would be a good idea to
put that engine in? the 250 engine runs but it needs some work and its gettin to be on its last legs. the jag
is in decent condition. also i'm worried about cooling. is it gonna have trouble getting enough air to cool it
so its not overheating all the time? the jags made to run in the cold and its air cooled.
also i think i'm gonna paint it with some of that color changing paint and i also wanna put a stereo on it.
what do you think of that? maybe one day if i'm rich i'll put on some hydrolics lol

Generally, snowmobile engines are not made for hot weather riding, the first thing would be the jetting, they run rich to make up for the frigid air they usually run in,so that would need to be leaned out to run right in the summer. As far as cooling, most older engines have a hard time getting rid of excess heat without snow and cold air blowin on them.If your 76 is like my old 72 340 jag,it should be fan cooled, which should help a bit,as long as you don't do a lot of putting around at low speed and overheat. You will also need a filter set up,snowmobiles just run a box,no filter,so a clamp on would probably work fine. If the output shaft for the clutch drive lines up on the proper side,it shouldn't take too much to get it to work, and might really make that little scooter fly!! Good luck if you decide to go ahead with this, let us all know how it came out.
