250R Reeds
#1
I have my '88 toren do to put in a new crank and have decided to do a little hopping up. What kind of reed valve is the best? Are Boysens worth their price or should I go with a FMF Ram valve? I ride on MX tracks and have a LRD pipe Wiseco piston and re-jetted stock carb. I also plan on having the cylinder ported for MX. What does a reed spacer do? Thanks!

Contrary to what other people may say. The reed valves are actually pretty similar. You can modify them to do what you want just like anything else. The reason that people say the FMF doesn't work as well is because they don't come with Dual Stage reeds like my RAD valve did. I feel that the key is not really in the reed cage, but in the actual reeds. The dual stage reeds are a little better because you get more power everywhere. Reed cages can ported to meet specific power characteristics. I am sure that you will be happy, with the Delta cage. As far as the reed spacer, the theory is that the fuel air mixture has a greater velocity when it enters the cylinder that is where the power gains come from. For the clutch basket, there are 3 that I know of. Hinson, Magnum-Vortex, and Speed. All of them are billet and all are pretty similar in design. I have a Magnum-Vortex personally and it works great and it was about $40 cheaper than the Hinson.
