400EX PEP Clutch System Update
#1
I got the new clutch system and e-brake block-off plate installed this weekend. The block-off plate took 2 minutes but the PEP clutch system pissed me off. With lots of pulling, I finally installed it but when it was on, it was all free-play. I had no clutch pull. I couldn't figure it out. We figured out that we needed to use the adjustments down by the clutch cover. I adjusted it so it now works, but I think I have too much free-play. How much should I have? For the stock setup, the book says 3/8"-13-16". How much should I use for the PEP EZ pull system?

frey,
when I changed my perch I did not have to adjust by the motor at all. as far as free play use this rule of thumb that I saw on a bike show. try to imagine the width of two tounge deppresers. that is the amount of play you want at the lever before the clutch actually grab.
goodluck ron.

Mike,
being its a different setup, it could position the cable differently..as far as free play I stick a nickle between my perch and lever, then tighten it up nice and tight, and thats about the right amount of freeplay

Pete,
Is there any snow left up there? I rode last weekend and there was a little. I am so anxious for riding season I can hardly stand it. I want to hit the Paul Bunyan trails the next time I go up, which should be the first weekend in April. Let me know if you want to go riding. Maybe we can hook up.
