Stupid Polaris ideas?

Hmm.. I say go with a Cr500 motor, or a 250. You cant go with those whipmy polaris engines. Especially with the stupid no shift tranny. Make your old 85 into a killer sleeper. Take it to the local drags, and show some people up. That would be satisfaction enuf for me!

I am saying you are full of it if you have an 85 polaris fourwheeler. They didn't start production of atv until 87 with the cyclone trike, then went with quads in 88.
The polaris engine tranny combo isn't the reason their bikes are slow. The heavy weight is. Their engines can turn awesome power numbers and the trannys can get it to the driveline without slowing you down due to shifting.

Sometimes when you have no clue what you are talking about you shouldn;t talk.
Polaris started making 3 and 4 wheelers in '85.
This is hardly a disputed fact.
Where did you get that info? Make it up right then?
ATV history
Scroll down to 1985, they even have a picture of one. Looks just like mine...

If you put a polaris snow engine in, how are you going to keep it cool during the summer months.
There is no way a atv radiator will keep up with the needs of that type of engine.
And another thing you will have to build a custom drive train set up to convert the belt drive to run a chain drive set up for the quad

It is a water cooled engine, I would need to mount a radiator somewhere that it would get enough airflow, a fan would most likely be needed.
They also race snowmachines at the local drag strip in the summer. They don't over heat.
As for the drivetrain, Keep in mind I have a Polaris. I already have a belt CVT.

Samwe: I do have a little experience with the conversion you mention.
First of all, in a machine already set up for the PVT, the install would be much easier than the one I recently completed in a LT250R Chassis.
Cooling can be an issue, but can easily be solved by increased capacity (Bigger Radiator, fan, etc.)
I can tell you that this type of setup will flat out GET IT ON!!
I saw a sport 400 chassis with a 700cc Polaris sled motor in it this summer at the dunes... Nobody could touch him! He was giving mod banshees and paddled YZF426 dirt bikes 1/2 hill head starts and still whipping them to the top! UNREAL!
I'm not convinced that the 500 will be big enough. (Mine is a Rotax 583cc and I need MORE)
Sounds like a fun project to me!
