400ex clutch

i was just wondering what the switch on the 400ex's clutch does? will it hurt to unhook it and put on a cr perch and lever?

It's a parking brake. They never work. Take it off. Good weight savings if you take off the whole assembly.

Nope, it's the clutch safety switch that doesn't allow the engine to start unless the clutch is pulled in (bike not being in neutral)...

It won't hurt to take it off, you'll just have to figure out if it's a normally open or normally closed switch and wire appropriately. Just be careful, the bike's neutral start safety will be rendered inoperative.

I took off the big wad of stuff and replaced it with an MSR CR lever and perch. YOu take off the black switch and put the two wires together and tape it up against the handle bars. remember not ti start it in gear without the lever pulled in.

I must be doing something wrong because no matter how hard I pull, the wires will not come out of the switch.

Cut the wires from the switch and solder them together and use shrink tube for insulation(available at Radio Shack).
